Info about Buns and piggies etc - Angie
Angie or anyone who can help, I have been asked to write a 400 word article about why we support BARC through our business and to provide some general info about the charity itself (mainly the rabbit side of things). I can manage the why we support you, but can anyone help with some other info, e.g how many rabbits are in rescue, how many BARC get coming to them every year, how many are rehomed etc, why your work is so important etc.
The info is to be highlighted on the fundraising page of our pet shop website and will of course have a link direct to your own website included which will hopefully raise awareness of the work you do and find new homes for some of the animals. If you hav a couple of pics we could use too of the buns and pigs that would be great - thank you. This is needed asap please.
Any queries Angie knows how to contact me. TIA

Re: Info about Buns and piggies etc - Angie
hi lynne ...i will get you some figures today or tomorrow with regards to how many buns and pigs we have rehomed ..
As for why its so important ... crikey where to start ..
rabbits are described as Britains most "disposable" pet . many are bought on a whim , without proper consideration being given to their needs .
They are too easy to get hold of from pet shops , garden centres ...backstreet/allotment breeders .
There is a misconception that they are both easy pets and suitable pets for children . both these conceptions are wrong . Rabbits are complex creatures with a high intelligence . They need company of their own kind and mental and physical stimulation . They need a good / proper diet and vaccinations like cats and dogs
All the above ..and more ..lead to rabbits being bought then the person realising that they are not the pet for them .
The lucky ones get handed in to rescues . the unlucky ones let lose (another misconception here..domestic rabbits will not survive long in the wild) or left to live a life of misery or die of neglect.
Our role is to help as many abandoned / unwanted rabbits as we can .
It is also to educate and advise in order to help people give their rabbits the best life they can.
NOT ALL people who buy rabbits dont care for them properly .. we are also there to advise and help these people too .
help from yourselves and others like yopu is invaluable . costs of rescueing are very high for any animal ...so any help we receive is always appreciated .
Also any good publicity is just as important .
hope this helps lynne

Re: Info about Buns and piggies etc - Angie
Thanks Angie that's brilliant. If you could get us some figures if how many rabbits are abandoned every year nationally and then how many you have rehomed that would be excellent.
Pics of any particular buns (not too gory) but maybe maloclusion buns or one with hair loss etc as a result of neglect, a manky hutch one has come from etc would be good.
Cheers
